I don't know if there is a way to express new events, new ideas without going within to find new mindscapes.
It's not so easy to stay within the moment unless you are an experienced yogi or meditator; most days I remind myself to spend time living in the 'now,' but at some stage I will be taken back to memory or forward to a planned event and how I see either of those timelines will depend on my 'now' mood. Is it positive, negative, or is it in-between. It will be driven by what/who might affect it, and that may come from anywhere.
As a exercise take a moment in time, and write something from a NOW POV, using an emotion/feeling to change the colour of an event in the mind of the protag, and then give your protag rein to react and see what might happen. Then take your preferred profile and express it through current events or even repeated seasonal celebrations.
Here’s Shakespeare’s Sonnet 59
If ever there be nothing new, save that which is
Hath been before, how are our brains beguil’d
Which labouring for invention, hear amiss
The second burden of a former child.
O, that record could with a backward look,
Even of five hundred courses of the Sun,
Show me your image in some antique book,
Since mind at first in character was done!
That I might see what the old world could say
To this composed wonder of your frame.
O, sure I am, the wits of former days
To subjects worse have given admiring praise.
