Shipwreck by Eira Needham

You struggled for a lifeline
I stretched out,
but a surge delivered you
breathless, floating
like driftwood into mist.

Lost in a sea of suckling mothers
I ache to cradle you
against my engorged breasts;
clutching your blue blanket
I’m submerged in its void.
